Merrylee Morschhauser, CNM
Hi! I’m Merrylee
Morschhauser and I am excited to be joining the
team at Birth Care. Along with my six siblings,
I was born at home in central Pennsylvania, and
have wanted to be a home birth midwife for much
of my life. I graduated from Messiah College
with a Bachelor's in Nursing in 2006. After
that I moved to Philadelphia, where I began my
career as a labor and delivery nurse at the
Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. I
worked there until I recently got married in May
of this year. In December 2009, I received my
Master's degree from the University of
Pennsylvania, studying Midwifery and Women's
Health. During midwifery school, I spent 3
months attending home births right here in
Lancaster County. I also spent two semesters
providing prenatal care and delivering babies
for Spanish-speaking Hispanic women in Southern
New Jersey. I’m fluent in Spanish, and excited
to be able to speak it once again with our
Spanish-speaking families here at Birth Care.
My husband Eric is getting his doctorate in
paleontology from the University of
Pennsylvania, and we recently returned from
spending a month in China, where I was helping
him with his research on some dinosaurs there.
I am very happy to be "home" in Lancaster County
again, attending births... there is nothing I
would rather be doing!
