Who We Are

Birth Care & Family

Health Services

Birth Care was founded in 1978 as the first Birth Center in Pennsylvania, and has been supporting mothers and families for almost 40 years! (Read about how Birth Care started here.) Throughout those many years, we have had the privilege of welcoming more than 7,000 babies to the world. The Certified Nurse-Midwives at Birth Care promote family- centered childbirth and respect a woman's right to control her birth experience. We provide prenatal, birth & postpartum care, and well-baby care through four weeks of life. We Believe: Successful health care is a partnership between each woman and her caregivers. Health encompasses emotional and spiritual well-being together with physical health. Women are empowered through wellness counseling and health education. Birth is a healthy, normal process for which a woman's body is perfectly designed. Giving birth can be the most fulfilling experience of a woman's life. Gentle birth creates gentle people and promotes a more peaceful world. We Believe: In providing information on a wide choice of medical, natural and alternative therapies. In each woman's right to informed choice in the use of medical tests, recommendations and interventions. Midwives are experts in normal birth and doctors are specialists for problems. We work with supportive backup physicians when necessary. Every woman has the right to give birth where she feels most safe and comfortable. Research has shown that healthy, low-risk women can birth safely at home or in a birth center. Non-Discrimination Policy It is the policy and practice of Birth Care that there shall be no discrimination in the employment, promotion, or compensation of staff, treatment of volunteers, or the delivery of any health care services provided by this agency on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, age, sex, or handicap. Reasonable accommodation will be made for disabled or handicapped clients and employees. If you believe that discrimination on any of the above basis occurred in this facility, the alleged incident should be reported immediately to the Executive Director at (717)-786-5506. A complaint may also be filed with the Office of Equal Opportunity, the Pennsylvania Department of Health and / or the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.
