Career Opportunities Certified nurse-midwife Seeking experienced CNM for full-scope practice at our free-standing birth center. Birth Care and Family Health Services is a not-for-profit practice in beautiful, rural Lancaster County, PA. Our CNMs provide comprehensive OB/GYN care, attending births at our fully-equipped CABC accredited free-standing birth center, and at a local hospital. We are proud to be serving our local Amish community with culturally sensitive care for over 30 years, which currently accounts for about 60% of our 400-500 births per year. Fully equipped free-standing birth center with 3 birth rooms, CNM call-room, separate office suite.
Low-risk births at the birth center, ability to attend IP transfers at local hospital.
2 CNMs on call at all times; office hours 5 days/week at one of two locations.
Privileges and physician collaboration agreements at Ephrata Community Hospital, with good relationships with other local hospitals/specialists and emergency personnel.
CNMs provide water birth, birth stools, pharmaceutical pain management, lactation support, and childbirth education, postpartum home visits by nursing staff.
30-40 births per month.
Well-care, family planning including contraception and fertility awareness teaching, pre-conception counseling, STI screening, pessaries, etc. offered.
Current clinical staffing includes 4.5FTE CNMs, RN/LPN birth assistants, MA/LPN office assistants.
Details of position: Position is FT, which is approximately 48 hours office or call and 12 hours 2nd call/week, +one weekend/month 2nd call. Call may be taken from home if within 30 minutes of birth center, 2nd call must be within 1 hour of birth center. Requirements:
Must have at least one year of CNM experience, out-of-hospital experience strongly preferred.
Specific interest in the out-of-hospital birth center model.
Ability to collaborate with a team and also practice independently with competence and confidence.
Knowledge of and comfort with common herbal/homeopathic/alternative therapies.
Must be able to obtain PA CNM license and prescriptive authority.
